Come one, come all! to free movies Monday (August 20), Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Elberta Waterfront Amphitheater. It’s the first annual Mushy Peach Festival, featuring films generously supplied by local auteur and Benzie booster Rich Brauer. All the films were shot locally and with local themes. Monday it’s a double feature of The Wreck and Rescue of the JH Hartzell and The Lost Treasure of Sawtooth Island (donations to the Elberta Historic Preservation Committee); Tuesday: Dead Rise aka Fitful, filmed aboard the SS City of Milwaukee, once harbored on Elberta’s shore (donations go to Solstice); Wednesday: Frozen Stupid, starring Ernest Borgnine (donations to the beach and picnic tables); Thursday, Brauer’s most recent movie, which debuted in Frankfort’s Garden Theater last December: Dogman (donations to general Park and Rec projects). Films start at 9. Pop and popcorn sales also benefit our various causes. This is a terrific opportunity to see some really deep cuts from Rich Brauer’s oeuvre, savor the waning summer eves of Elberta, and contribute a little bit to make the Village better! Enjoy deeply local culture, and bring a goose-poop-proof blanket!
